How do you solve a Rubik's Cube step by step?

Use a beginner layer-by-layer path: notation, white cross, first layer, middle layer, then the yellow last layer.

How do you solve the white cross?

Match each white edge with its side center before placing it, so the cross is solved on the white face and around the sides.

How do you make the yellow cross on a Rubik's Cube?

Look only at the yellow edge stickers on top, then turn the dot, L-shape, or line into a yellow plus.

Why does my yellow cross not match the side colors?

That is normal right after making the yellow cross. The next step moves the yellow edge pieces until their side colors match the centers.
